History

Riverside Gardens was established on the banks of the Broken river in the early 70’s by the Branston family and subsequently purchased by Bob & Moira Smith in 1982 and again run as a family business.

The business grew on that site until 1993 when the broken river flooded and a metre of water ran through the nursery.

The nursery re-established on that site but plans were soon put in place to relocate as the initial tenant of the new Emerald Bank complex being developed by Lloyd Mawson and in 1997 Riverside Gardens moved lakeside at the new Emerald bank complex.

Our Growth

Over the following years we continued to grow along with the complex and re-established our mini golf course and continued to grow our gift shop and landscape elements of the business to the point where we won the best medium garden centre in Victoria award in 2008 and followed that up with two other wins in the following years.

We have overcome

The Smith family along with a very dedicated staff still run the business which has not been without it’s challenges, as along with a major flood the business has endured a fire in its showroom, an extremely destructive mini tornado and the prolonged drought, not to mention recessions, the GFC and Covid19.

2022 see us Celebrating 40 years’ in business, over the years we have developed into a nursery as good as the best in the country and continue to adapt and change in ways to best serve the Goulburn Valley community and continue “Helping Shepparton Grow”.
